Teen Vogue : Katy Perry’s 10 best hair moments

- From retro waves and vibrant wigs, Katy Perry is as known for her ever-changing tresses as she is for her chart-topping tunes.

Katy Perry’s hair has always been totally unpredictable. When she first kicked off her career with with hits like “Hot n Cold,” her tresses were constantly changing—one day, Old Hollywood waves, and a blunt bob the next. But it was around the time that her best-selling album Teenage Daydream hit the airwaves that she started stepping out with colorful wigs and wacky-streaked hair.

Gone are the days of Katy’s signature jet black ‘do—since breaking out of the box, she’s tried everything from bumper bangs to blonde curls to rainbow-bright ponytails. So take a cue from this California Gurl, and get gutsy with your hair!

1. Katy in her signature blunt bangs and shiny black locks back in 2010 at the Kid’s Choice Awards

2. Starting the blue hair trend in a bright wig with brow skimming bangs and bouncy curls at the MTV Movie Awards in 2010.

3. Switching it up, the songstress adds length at a Volkswagen event in NYC wearing a shoulder grazing, super high ponytail.

4. At the launch of her signature fragrance, Purr, Katy sports a bright purple wig with her trademark bangs. (katyperryindo : or maybe this actually from Q&A’s with youtube)

5. She goes back to black and adds vibrant streaks of blue, pink and purple in her shoulder length curls, recreating the look from her Firework video at the VMA’s in July 2010.

6. Dazzling at the world premiere of The Smurfs in July 2011, Katy steps out with wavy blonde locks, matching the ‘do of her character, Smurfette.

7. The pop star debuts a candy pink dye job (no wig this time!), and accessorizes with a flower barrette pinning back her retro waves.

8. Wearing her pink mane in a chic updo adorned with an iridescent hairpiece to the American Music Awards in November.

9.Katy steps out with a freshly chopped, pink-streaked blonde bob at a benefit dinner in December 2011.

Katy Perry on Fame, Friendship, and her Future

On the day of the Oscars, Los Angeles is positively lousy with stars. And the Chateau Marmont—a storied West Hollywood hotel that’s sheltered everyone from Greta Garbo to Mary-Kate Olsen—is basically the epicenter of the outbreak. But even at the kind of establishment where one all but expects to encounter Zac Efron (for example) at the valet stand, Katy Perry still has the power to turn heads.

Of course, going incognito isn’t exactly an option when your hair is the color of cobalt. But Katy, who’s had one song or another near the top of the charts for the better part of the past two years, does her best to blend in, tucking her bright blue locks under a headband and hiding her similarly toned eyes behind a pair of dark sunglasses. (The rest of her outfit is probably best described as “haute workout”—aside from a pop of pink lipstick, she looks as though she may have come straight from the gym.)

As all the barely con- cealed double-takes attest, Katy is already about as famous as a girl can get. But this summer, the newly single 27-year-old is going to become even more ubiquitous, thanks to the big-screen release of Katy Perry: Part of Me, a documentary that showcases the incredible performances—and behind-the-scenes drama—of her California Dreams tour. “One of my main reasons for doing this is that people think of me as though I’m Dorothy in the ruby slippers,” she says, implicitly likening her career to the plot of The Wizard of Oz. “I want them to see everything else that’s involved. Yes, I am her, but at the end of it all, I’m also the guy behind the curtain.” Indeed: While Katy, like Dorothy, was once a sweet, sheltered girl with a gorgeous singing voice, it didn’t take a tornado to drag her to the big city—she moved to L.A. at seventeen and cycled through no fewer than four record labels before breaking big with One of the Boys in 2008. “My life is crazy now,” she admits. “When you get to this level, there’s a lot that’s not real, but I really haven’t changed.” Read on to find out what else she has to say about fame, friendship, and her future.

TEEN VOGUE: Teenage Dream was a juggernaut—you matched Michael Jackson’s Hot 100 record for the most number one songs off a single album, and then “Part of Me,” a new song off the special edition, debuted at the top of the chart. Is it still exciting to get that kind of response?

KATY PERRY: Of course! I’m not like, “Ugh, number one again.” It’s funny, though—my label gets so caught up in the statistics, just because they’re excited. But for me, I don’t need to grind it into anyone’s head that I’m popular. If you like my music, great, and if you don’t, whatever. I’m going to keep making it either way. This does feel a bit like the record that never ends. But I wanted to release The Complete Confection for the hard-core fan who wants everything: three new songs, the remixes, and it’s all in a cute little package.

TEEN VOGUE: Were you inspired by other pop documentaries, like Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never or Madonna’s Truth or Dare?

KATY PERRY: A little. Madonna is everything to me, and that movie is amazing because it caught her at a time when she was a bit more vulnerable. I wanted to do that too, to capture a snapshot of who I am now so that I can remind myself what I’ve lost if I ever do become totally jaded. [Laughs]

TEEN VOGUE: I bet you’ll be able to keep it together.

KATY PERRY: I hope so. If not, I’m sure my sister and my brother and my best friends will kick my butt.

TEEN VOGUE: That’s what friends are for, right?

KATY PERRY: My friends are so awesome and hilarious. They’re the same friends I’ve had since I first moved to L.A., and they can make anything fun. We could literally be in a padded room with no furniture and we’d be able to have a dance party, play games, and just have the best conversation ever.

TEEN VOGUE: You’re really close with actress Shannon Woodward, from Raising Hope. Was it her idea for you to appear on her show?

KATY PERRY: Yeah, she was like, If you ever want to do anything, let me know—we write for you all the time. I wanted to be unrecognizable. I love making people laugh, even if it means I’ll never get another date again. My heroes in film are women like Kristen Wiig, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler: They’re gorgeous, but they’re confident enough to be able to laugh at themselves.

TEEN VOGUE: It seems like acting is something that really interests you. Are you looking to make a movie anytime soon?

KATY PERRY: I would love to. There was a time when I was going to be involved in The Help—just a small part, I wasn’t going to be Emma Stone or anything—but I couldn’t because the shooting schedule conflicted with the release of my record. And I was upset about that; I knew it was going to be an important film. Not that I need to do drama first, but I do want to do something that makes a strong impression. You don’t really get off the hook being a musician first … I feel like the stakes are really high.

TEEN VOGUE: You occasionally permit other artists to record songs that you co-wrote. Was it hard to watch Kelly Clarkson have a hit with “I Do Not Hook Up”?

KATY PERRY: No. Kelly is a fantastic person to interpret anyone’s work, and honestly, I consider myself a songwriter first and foremost. If I stay true to myself, I’m not going to run out of songs!

TEEN VOGUE: Yet you’re a little more glamorous than the average singer-songwriter….

KATY PERRY: I don’t like to take fashion too seriously. I love it, and I am so grateful when big brands want to associate with me, but mostly I just want to take chances and have fun and truly live. And sometimes that means wearing some ridiculous, cat-inspired outfit rather than whatever happens to be in this season.
TEEN VOGUE: You’ve worn a lot of vintage-pinup-type ensembles in the past. Are there particular women who are influencing your look now?

KATY PERRY: Definitely. I love Agyness Deyn, Chloë Sevigny, Daphne Guinness, Natalie Wood, Judy Jetson, and Wonder Woman.

TEEN VOGUE: That’s quite a list. What do you think they have in common?

KATY PERRY: Personal style, probably. And strength. They have the ability to adapt and evolve and change. Like, I’m still doing the pinup thing, but now when I do it, I want to be the pinup of the future, like Rachael in Blade Runner. But I’ve always been quirky—it probably started when I was nine years old, and my father used to wake me up at seven every Saturday morning to take me to garage sales. I couldn’t afford the clothes that the other girls at school were wearing, so instead I looked for things that were unique to me.

TEEN VOGUE: Your looks—and your life—have been the subject of so much scrutiny. Do you ever see yourself getting tired of being famous?

KATY PERRY: I’m tired of being famous already! But I’m not tired of creating. Fame is, I think, just a disgusting by-product of what I do. It’s quite a delicate creature— it’s a wild animal of sorts. It can love you, and then it can attack you. I still want to be as approachable and relatable as possible—when I meet fans and they’re crying, I’ll say, “Calm down, there’s nothing to cry about. I’m not going to bite you or attack you or grant you three wishes. Let’s just hang out and have a good time.” But really, I stopped focusing on what other people think a while ago. If you try to be everything to everyone, you’ll only end up completely confused.

Just to make it clear: I’ve been contacted today by a source close to Katy and I’ve been told that Baptiste is not dating her whatsoever. Just because the tabloids are speculating it that does not mean it is true and also don’t believe everything you read or see in photos taken by the nice guys also known as paparazzi. We all know that they only show what they want to show and only write things that are meant to defile someone’s image. So please. And frankly it is not our business in the first place so let’s stay put until Katy has something to share and not the “well-doers”.

NARM to Honor Katy Perry with “Artist of the Year” Award at Music Biz 2012

NARM, the music business association, will present its “Artist of the Year” Award to global superstar Katy Perry during the Music Biz 2012 Awards Dinner Party on Thursday, May 10, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. Perry had a banner year in 2011, tying Michael Jackson’s record for most No. 1 singles from one album when five tracks from her Capitol Records sophomore release, Teenage Dream, topped the charts. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts in August 2010, achieved double Platinum certification in the U.S. and has sold more than 5.5 million copies worldwide. The album also earned four Grammy nominations in 2011, including Album of the Year, and two in 2012 for the single “Firework.”

“Katy’s music was absolutely everywhere over the past year, and her dominance of the singles charts is a nearly unprecedented accomplishment,” said Jim Donio, President of NARM. “While Katy was a highly successful artist prior to Teenage Dream, she has unquestionably blossomed into a true global superstar and has earned this Award in every sense of the word.”

Now, with the impending release of Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection on March 26, Perry is poised to continue her success into 2012 and beyond. The album will feature the original Teenage Dream as well as three new tracks, including “Part of Me,” which Perry debuted during an electrifying performance at this year’s Grammy Awards. The track sold more than 400,000 copies in its first week, and debuted at #1 Billboard in its first week, a feat achieved only 20 times in the past 53 years.

This summer Katy will be coloring the silver screen when her first film, “Katy Perry: Part Of Me”, is released worldwide by Paramount Insurge. The 3-D documentary reveals Katy’s life on- & off-stage during the past year, which she noted to BBC Radio 1, “was the most intense year I think of my life.”

Perry burst onto the scene in 2008 with her debut album, One of the Boys, and its provocative hit single “I Kissed a Girl,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album achieved Platinum status in the U.S., selling more than 3 million copies worldwide, and earning two Grammy nominations in 2009 and 2010. After touring the U.S. and Canada as part of the 2008 Warped Tour, Perry embarked on her first headlining tour in 2009, quickly gaining notoriety for her outsized personality, forward-thinking fashion sense and dynamic stage shows. She then brought her vision to the world at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards with a blowout performance of Teenage Dream’s first single, “California Gurls,” that featured an appearance by legendary rapper Snoop Dogg. The resulting 124-date California Dreams Tour, which kicked off in February 2011, capitalized on that success to become one of the top concert draws of the year, placing 13th on Billboard’s annual Top 25 Tours list and earning nearly $50 million.

Former recipients of the “Artist of the Year” Award have included Taylor Swift, Coldplay and Green Day

Medias Comment on Katy’s Role in Raising Hope

Entertainment Weekly:
First, you have to giver her props for going ugly . And it should be said: Perry did a rather smashing job bringing Rikki to life, so much so that it was easy to forget who was playing the role. Which is, in acting terms: success!

New York Post
You have to be funny to make that work — or you end up looking like you’re in a send up of “Women in Chains.” And Perry makes it work because she’s funny. Who knew?
Turns out pretty girl Perry is a natural comedian — sort of like the love child of Lucille Ball and Zooey Deschanel.

Popcrush
Katy Perry made her highly anticipated guest starring stint on ‘Raising Hope’ tonight (March 6) and we have to hand it to her: she was hilarious! Perry clearly had fun with the role, and she disappeared into it completely. She was hysterical to boot! If she can transform like this, a role in the Paul Potts biopic isn’t hard to fathom at all.

Zap2it
Her role was a small one — as was her role as Honey in “How I Met Your Mother” — but Perry proved her comedy acting chops and that she’s not afraid to ditch her typical hot-girl looks in the name of a laugh… Though another episode of “Raising Hope” may not be likely for Perry’s character, here’s hoping Perry throws her hat in the acting ring again soon.

TVequals
Katy was genuinely funny as Sabrina’s psychotic prison guard Rikki. Kudos to Perry for being so willing to go all the way for her role, sporting a ridiculous hair-do and a gross mustache. She was completely unrecognizable! For how much FOX hyped up her guest appearance, you’d think that she would actually look something like the recognizable singing sensation.
